I love this site because I can get real world answers to questions. I have posted here several times about our options to move and we have finally recieved orders so I got info here about the areas. We settled on Rockville in that little pocket still called Derwood. My question is, are there any parks in the area? We will be living off of Indianola. I'd like to find a park with in walking distance. When I lived in MD last we were in Germantown, walking distance from Gunners Lake. Is there anything similar to that in Derwood? Also, what else is there to do with children in that area? Is the library close or would I need to take the car?
When we were out there we didn't have time to explore the neighborhoods we were looking at. I was overwhelmed. So I know nothing about how close or far the park and library are from the house. I know we are a very short drive to the metro so we can take the train but I would prefer to save that for special adventures into DC etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

That neighborhood is adjacent to Rock Creek Regional Park. The below description is from the Montgomery County park's Web site: Montgomery Parks: - Rock Creek Regional Park

"Rock Creek Regional Park covers approximately 1800 acres and includes the beautiful 75-acre Lake Needwood and the picturesque 55-acre Lake Frank. Visitors can enjoy the park by meandering along 13 miles of trails through woodlands and along the lakeshores, picnicking, fishing, boating and viewing many species of resident wildlife. Picnic shelters can be reserved by contacting the Park Permits Office. Other park amenities include playgrounds, Needwood Boat Rental and Snack Bar, Meadowside Nature Center and lake tours on the Queen Needwood."

The Rock Creek trail runs up to this park from the D.C. line, but I've never gone this far up the trail from where I live. The closest library is down at Rockville Town Center so you'll probably want to drive.

C.
