I'm currently looking for a slightly cheaper alternative to the apartment I'm currently renting in Rockville, MD. Right now, my rent is about $2400 a month for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1000 sq feet apartment next to the metro. I'm looking to move to another area (preferably northern Virginia) where I can rent a 2 bedroom apartment within walking distance of a metro stop for slightly cheaper. I'm trying to find something around $1800-2000/month, in a safe area, and like I said, within walking distance to metro. I found a few options in Alexandria, but I've never been to the Arlington area. Can anyone recommend an apartment? Thanks!

Hi there -

For Arlington questions, it's probably best to post them in the NOVA forum.

But would you like suggestions for apts in other Maryland suburbs in your price range ? Where is work - do you want a short commute ?

Thanks, I'll post this in the NoVA area also.

I'm working in Potomac, MD and my boyfriend takes the metro into DC. We're looking for an area that is close to a metro station and within an hour drive of Potomac.

I used to stay in the Brookdale Apartments in the Mark Center area of Alexandria VA, owned and operated by the DC-based JBG Group. You can get a 2 bedroom for pretty cheap there, very likely under your minimum budget range. The area is safe-ish but it is almost entirely immigrant, runs the risk of petty theft, is 'dumpy', and the rate is raised substantially each subsequent year for renewal. Also, marijuana-smoking miscreants tend to habitate the basement laundry rooms. If trouble does occur, don't bother calling the police unless it is life or death. Calls to the police are almost never responded to in this area (based on personal experience and observations).

But good news is that this place is just minutes from DC via car... which won't really help you if you are only planning on commuting by metro (you'd have to take the bus to get to the metrorail, which takes about 15 minutes from the Brookdale stop).

If I have sold you on the prospect of checking out this 'gem', feel free to hit up the URL below.
