I remember on the master plan used to have the plots available near OHR as a gas station, a retail strip and commercial building. Would be interesting to know if that changed or not

I thought MGM bought that extra land which is why they said they expanded their original footprint. My guess would be more retail as the square feet for retail in the main building is not that big. I would nix any idea of offices. As a corp or business owner, I'd be too nervous about productivity being so close to a huge entertainment complex that's open 24/7. lol

That would be my guess too as it would make sense given its proximity to entertainment and shopping. Another option would be a residential building. They are supposed to be building a hotel as a part of the Tanger complex so I don't see them building a third unless there is an overwhelming demand.

From what I recall MGM has built in space to be included in the current footprint that would be developed at a later date. The only property that I remember them buying out of the 4 or 5 that surround them is the one closet to the harbor which they plan to build a helicopter pad of some kind.

Helicopter pad huh? I can't imagine what it would be used for. Unless they are really expecting high rollers to go to this casino? None of the other casinos have helicopter pads. That says a lot. I really need to see the inside of this place when it opens. They are really hyping it up.

In my experience helicopter pads are reserved for helicopters exclusively. Ships and such are not permitted.
I think you mean you can't imagine who would use it.

Default MGM National Harbor Tops Out!

The hotel at MGM National Harbor has topped out. Just in time for a major snow storm too! The article includes some nice photos of the resort taking shape.

Some interesting tidbits from the article:

Quote:
When MGM first proposed this project, it estimated the price tag at $800 million. Now, it’s $1.3 billion. Numerous factors played into the rising costs, Murren said. Masking the parking garage with a podium, for example, or redesigning the theater, undergrounding infrastructure, doubling the number of specialty restaurants, building to LEED Gold standards, pouring money into the hotel suites, construction delays.
ANd a little dig on Trump's new hotel in DC at the Old Post Office:

Quote:
The result of all of this work, he said, will be luxury unmatched. Asked how MGM National Harbor will compare to the Trump International Hotel coming to Pennsylvania Avenue later this year, Murren said, “We’ll blow that away. We need a higher standard than that.”

Again, I can't wait to see the inside of this place. Mainly because I've never been in a Las Vegas style casino, only others like Maryland Live!, The Horseshoe in Baltimore, Harrah's in New Orleans, and the ones at Atlantic City.

More press on the top out.

Quote:
"Today, we commemorate an important construction milestone for MGM National Harbor, as our vision for building the finest luxury resort on the East Coast continues to come to fruition. When we began this journey, we set out to design a property that would rival any in our portfolio, bring great pride to Prince George's County and the State of Maryland.
Okay, so it's a 4,000 seat theater. A lot of media still have the 3,000 seat figure in their postings.

Quote:
Swapping a planned 3,000-seat theater for a 4,000-person-capacity facility that can be used for conventions, boxing matches, concerts, and other events added about $100 million to the casino’s construction budget, said Lorenzo Creighton, the casino’s president chief operating officer.

I just saw the report of the milestone on NBC4's news. They spoke with chef Bryan Voltaggio. I didn't know he was from Bowie. I can't wait to tour the resort once it's completed.

Yep that is what I remember them saying it would be used for. Also remember them saying they were going to partner with the airport in Indian Head to get it prepared for a higher volume of private/charter planes. Don't know where that went. They also look like they are making progress on the training center

Yeah I read that article. Based on the images of Trumps rooms yeah they are going to blow them out of the water. Now that its enclosed things should go really fast. I am looking forward to the open house too.

So I was driving through National Harbor on my way home from work and saw a hearing notice. My first thought was that it was related to the MGM build out but my curiosity made me look up it up when I got home. So my thoughts were correct, it is related to the MGM project but some parts of the description peaked my interests
Quote:
500 ROOM HOTEL, 891 UNIT RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, ENTERTAINMENT, SERVICE STATION AND HELIPAD
So I knew about the helipad and the service station but the 891 Residential and 500 Room hotel caught my attention. Maybe the 500 room hotel is an expansion of the hotel that will be there. If not then I wonder what will be coming and where. Also what and where are the 891 residential units going to be .... my guess would be parcel C on the NH master plan. If that is the case does that mean some other retail, commercial, and entertainment options outside of MGM is going to follow in the near term?

The case number is DSP-07073-02 and the hearing is on 03/03/2016 but there is also a agenda item for 02/18/2016. No real supporting documentation has been posted yet but definitely plan to follow the case to find out more details.
