There can always be a soft opening. They can open a few of the main areas of the complex without opening others. Therefore technically being "open" but not fully. For example, it's not real important that they are able to hold conventions and conferences on day 1. Same goes for the theater and spa. Those can open at a later date with the first concerts/shows opening in January. The main casino floor, the hotel, and a few restaurants can be open with other restaurants and retail that will be "coming soon."

My bet is that they are putting most efforts on the casino floor, hotel, and the restaurant portions. Once those are at 99% completion, then they move to the other areas. So if December hits and they aren't done at least the main parts are complete.

Yeah i agree. That and the road configuration. Not sure how I feel about using Oxon Hill Road as their main entry point

Here are some renderings of the 3,000 seat theater inside MGM.

I've been reading in article lately that the price tag for MGM National Harbor is now $1.4 billion? Any idea what that extra $100 million is going towards? That's not a small amount of money.

From my understanding it went to an expansion of the performance space to accommodate up to 4000 people as well as additional space that will be fitted out at some point in the future.

Any idea where this additional space is? If they are touting the cost as now $1.4 billion, people will want to know why. The theater I get, but if there is additional space, it seems that would have been mentioned to help account for the extra $100 million. We're under 90 days from opening. It's time to start turning over those stones. The competition pretty much gets the idea of what the resort will entail now. No need to keep anything else under wraps at this point.

Also, now that we are 90 days to opening, seems like we should start hearing about the retail offerings. Ninety days is not a lot of time to hire and train staff for such high-end retail unless they will relocate some staff from other stores.

Did a quick search to see of I could find the original article but didn't have time to sift through all of them. Below you will find an article to details what some of it will be used for. It was mentioned in an article by Lorenzo Creighton of MGM earlier this year. Aside from the performance space they will be making improvements to the finishes in the casino area. There will also be additional space (I believe it was about 50k to 75K sq. ft.) that will be built out after the opening based on need)

Swapping a planned 3,000-seat theater for a 4,000-person-capacity facility that can be used for conventions, boxing matches, concerts, and other events added about $100 million to the casino’s construction budget, said Lorenzo Creighton, the casino’s president chief operating officer.
