They have Cartier and Omega watches on their website. But I'm not sure if their MGM store is exclusive to Rolex.

By the tone of the article. It sounds like it will be but we will see in 2017. I presume they will open before the Spring.

People come here specifically for events at the Gaylord for one...Mrs World, etc.

Second, I've already seen bus trip tours from Durham, NC to the MGM and I'm sure they'll happen often from everywhere in the mid-atlantic.

All the above is true but let's put it into perspective. COLA has a lot to do with the overall atmosphere, which is why MGM is a 1 stop destination that rolls over from DC's historic/touristy energy. This has to be well understood. MGM is not going to fail or be a terrible place for the personally intrigued and casino/events. Those who can support it will do just fine- this includes targeted patrons. Atlantic city took a dive in the past because it was a 1 destination port and did not build around the city. The area around the MGM is self sustainable and will attract those who can afford- because the culture of upscale is already set.

However, the main issue is that MGM National Harbor has to keep within the realm of "upscale" in order to be in accordance with the area's mission and Pay the bills. For example, you won't find a mechanical bull or readily accessible games and activities for college kids that one would find at a less than upscale destination point like Hard Rock & Casino Hollywood Fl or Las Vegas. This would then attract the element and wouldn't bring enough revenue for such an expensive property. Even though having certain upscale venues, other Hotel/Casinos are all inclusive and some include a huge 21+ area for the clubs and bars. Also, the Maryland area prides itself on wanting to have that appeal but WITHOUT the "element". It's like wanting to be cool and creative in the Bronx but have your wholefoods store within distance. There is only so much cool one will get while living in a high COL area.

The bottom line is, MGM/NH will do just fine. People just need to stop hyping it as if it is an "all inclusive" area that will cater to non-targeted audiences but will be mainly for those who come specifically for the casino and live musical/political events. Those bus loads of people are coming for a purpose (THE CASINOS and live events, not lower level attractions).

As I said previously, Steve Wynn realized that gaming revenue was an effect, not a cause. He spent 200 million on attractions and entertainment at the Golden Nugget that had little to do with gaming. These people spent more money on attractions and gambled when they had time. The focus was on non-gaming. This is why the plan for Boston's Casino/hotel had the college kids in mind from the IMMEDIATE local AREA, not relying on only bus loads of tourists.

"you have to give people a reason to submit to a body search. And it sure ain't a slot machine" - Steve Wynn....

The traffic in the area has definatly gotten better since MGM opened. Takes me to get to alexandria 18 minutes by car from Oxon Hill during morning rush hour. That is great for commuters.

I noticed the same thing. The only rough spot is when OHR goes down to two lanes when you get past the harbor going into the neighborhood. But that is usually in the evening rush hour for me.

Peterson can do something like this to connect Tanger, MGM and the new building they bought recently.

For the 23 days in December that it was open, the MGM casino averaged $1.8M per day, while Md Live was down 11% or $6M on last December averaging $1.5M a day for 31 days.

So it looks like MGM will grow the market significantly without eating too much into Md. Live, whose record month was $61M. We'll see if/when MGM surpasses that. Horseshoe was up 9% for December.

The true gauge will be during the summer months when people are more active. it would also be interesting to see a comparison of each casino's first month revenues. We will also have to see how patronage of MGM is impacted when they implement their pay to park policy.
