Single, 33, white male: looking for a studio or 1 bedroom apartment in Annapolis. I would like to be close to nightlife, shopping, restaurants, the water. I would like to spend around $1,000 a month. I am relocating to the area and thus are unfamiliar with the best places to live and the places to avoid. Are there any loft/studio apartments in the historic district? I am not hung up on living in the historic district but it is about the only area I have ever been to. Any help you could lend would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you look at Hotpads.com, you will see one studio in the historic district of Annapolis, and it rents for $1500/month. The median rental of studios in Annapolis is $1189, and the median for a 1 bedroom is $1345. Thus you will have to increase your budget to live there.

Realistically, there are very few safe places in the Metro DC area where you can find a 1 bedroom under $1000/month. There are places in Annapolis under $1000 but they are in undesirable areas.

The historic district of Annapolis is THE place to be, although I am absolutely in love with Annapolis in general. Unfortunately though, the closer you get to Annapolis Historic District's Main Street/Naval Academy area the pricier the place is.

Just take a day looking around there and you should get a pretty good picture of the area. Best of luck!

Can anyone tell me how big (in terms of blocks) the Annapolis Historic District is? What are the housing options like?

Starting next year, a change in my company's work structure may only require me to commute to my downtown DC (Union Station area) office 1-2 days per week. I've read a bit about a commuter bus that runs from Annapolis to DC. If anyone can share their thoughts about living in Annapolis, and the commuting situation, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
