kind of a weird question but Im wondering what the best libraries in the DMV are. Some people would probably say a library is a library but like all things some are better than others. Does anyone know of or frequent a library that has really impressed them? I live in Takoma Park by the way but it doesnt necessarily have to be in my immediate area. Also it doesnt have to be a city public library, it can be a university or community college library. Any library you think is particularly nice

I've seen a few brochure displays at the Motor Vehicle offices...
but never anything even close to a library let alone a good one.

The main Montgomery County Library in Rockville is the best public library for reference material. I am not sure what else you need. You can always get inter-library loans from your local branch.

Then the Library of Congress on Capital Hill is the best in the country, but material does not circulate. There are also specialized libraries like DAR in Washington for genealogical material and NIH in Bethesda for medical research material.

BTW, "DMV" is not an appropriate acronym. "Metro Washington DC" is preferable.

I'm not sure about best in the DMV, but University of Maryland has several libraries that are pretty big in College Park, I believe they are open to the public also.

I don't think any libraries are worthy of particular merit in the DMV. That said, NIU's John T. Hughes Library contains some material that you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the US. Not open to the general public, though. National Intelligence University

The Rockville Library (Montgomery County, MD) is a monster! I love it, but it's not in my neck of the woods, so I don't frequent it. MoCo is also constructing a new Silver Spring Library. Looks to be really nice.

The new Howard County Library in Ellicott City is very nice, but I haven't compared it to other local ones. The New Miller Branch Library and Historical Center - Local Connections - Ellicott City, MD Patch

I've been meaning to go in the Pratt Library just because I've driven past it so many times, and now that I see it has a Mencken Room that is open once a year I think I know when I'll go. About the Library - Enoch Pratt Free Library

I have to say PG libraries are pretty good IMHO but I don't have much of frame of reference.

PGC libraries are not terrible, there are just not as many as there should be.
