The suburbs of Maryland are definitely very diverse. Demographics can change dramatically within a mile or even a block or two.

This is probably a stupid question for someone who grew up on the area, but where are the majority of single 18-30 people concentrated as far as neighborhoods go?

It seems to me they're just scattered all over the suburbs except for a few areas near metro stops which have the "yuppies".

With DC nightlife.. I often meet a lot of people who live in Virginia or Maryland and metro into the city to party. I also see loads of them metroing out drunk on the last train. But where do they go?

With neighborhoods the suburbs (for the most part) are filled with families, senior citizens and kids. The Young singles are scattered thoughtout different areas and neighborhoods but not concentrated in any areas I can think of besides maybe Downtown Silver spring which still has lots of teenagers and families.

I agree with you, with the exception of College Park. I think few people under 30 can afford to buy houses, so they will be clustered in the rental communities, townhouses, etc.

What is the real question? Do you want to find a place they might hang out like on the shows Friends or Seinfeld?
