I'm new to the area and recently bought a home in Upper Marlboro. I'm looking for a stellar private school for my 3 year old son. I'm a fan of Montessori education, but am quite open to any recommendations for nearby schools that prioritize a love for learning. Also, I'd love for him to be exposed to people of all colors, so a bit of diversity is also desired.

Any recomendations?

P.S. I have my eye on Henson Valley Montessori, which recently relocated off of 301 from Allentown Road. Anyone hear the good, bad or ugly about it?

Thanks for your time!

It sounds like your kids' education is very important to you. Kudos for that!

I went to private schools in PG and Mont Co. I'd take a Mont Co. public school over a PG private school any day, but that's just my own bias.

The best way to decide is take a day off work, leave your kids home and observe a school day. Watch how the teacher handles rowdy kids, see IF there are rowdy kids, ask for copies of old tests for curriculum examples and so on. Hey... If you're going to fork over several thousand a year, you have a right to know.

PG has some of the BEST private schools in Maryland. I'm speaking from experience, that experience being the outcome of children who went one of PG's private schools. HUGE college graduation rates and diversity. Henson is a good one; I know someone who's children went there before she put them in a Christian school. PG's Christian schools are some of the best as well, especially Grace Brethren. Although it is located about 20 to 30 minutes from you, depending on the traffic, I believe they have a bus service.
