Thanks. There are a few projects that have been approved but haven't broken ground yet and there's no hint at when. Unfortunately they are the two that will replace the most dilapidated properties north of RT. 193. I hope they hurry up so that we can stop looking at those empty lots.

The developers of the new Courtyard Marriott want to add apartments behind the hotel. I think that's a great idea and will continue to spur that kind of revitalization. I wish a developer would replace those God awful student towers behind the College Park strip mall.

Toll brothers is still buying the Knox Boxes? Thought that was a done deal. I don't see how they can start demolishing them before next fall unless they will have the permit process done as soon as they make the last purchase.

Official source? I'll add that no one said they were coming...yet. The source I provided said they were doing a market study.

I know the RE brokers that represent them with their real estate needs. They said, no way. That said, Abe Pollen denied moving his team to the District.....from Landover. So you never know. I could see them at the new casino at some point.

Do you know what is happening in College Park, Berwyn House Road? I heard 4700 is coming down, its a well worn doctors buiding now, the other building on Route 1 is empty. What are they going to build there? I thought tha site would make a nice retail town center. Its not that large, but still, its now across from a lot of student housing.

A street car/light rail should be built from Rhode Island avenue station to Laurel using Rt. 1. That along with the purple line will boost economicdevelopment in the northern part of the county and transform it to the likes of Rockville pike from White Flint to Rockville mixed with a Columbia pike concept.

Adelphi - can the city, county or state do something about these motels on rt 1 that only seem to exist for prostitution , drugs and other shady behavior. Just read that a woman was found shot to death in one of them. Can owners of these ****holes ever be held accountable for what is going on under there roofs - not like they aren't aware. Getting rid of these would kill two birds with one stone: blight and crime. Also would help the perception of CP if there weren't annual stories about prostitution rings and drugs.

Thoughts?

Not sure what you can do. They are business owners outright. Any laws or codes that targeted them specifically would be unfair. They have a right to do business just like anyone else. And it's pretty hard to discriminate and profile. Not everyone is there for nefarious reasons.

It would take a developer buying them out and tearing those motels down for hotels or apartments or something.

I'm not suggesting targeting motels for the sake of targeting motels. Rather, targeting businesses that clearly are set up to profit off of illicit activity, albeit indirectly. Maybe there is some regulations or minimum standards that can be put in place - like crime/room ratio with hefty fines to incentivize mgmt to better monitor. Better motel mgmt in general would reduce the problem. Or it may take a lawsuit if someone gets harmed on the property if the occerance of the crime was reasonably foreseeable (I'm not an attorney).

Just saying that the city of CP has been dealing with this issue and the negative consequences for a long time. If the goal is to make it a top college town and attract faculty and families, this has to be addressed.
