I pass the Duvall shopping center often and no matter what they do its just too small for a super walmart. Now I have heards that Super Walmarts will be small in size because of new urban designs but it just doesn't seem to fit that neighborhood. It will bring too much traffic. They should hold out for another retailer or even an amish market. Dont saturate that section of the county with Walmarts....how about bringing in a Homegoods??? There are non in PG county at all!

I know where that site is located. Are the people that are talking trash about a walmart supercenter because of size/location or is it fear of the fact that it will attract a mass number of African American shoppers to that area....

I know people who live in that area and its really size and location. They want a super walmart in the county but just not that site.

I'll repeat my preference, that IF there's going to be a super Walmart, they just need to expand the one right where the one on 301 is already. Make that site work. Period.

No NEW Walmart right across the road on Mill Branch...then, what would happen to the old Walmart building?

As for Duvall shopping Center....personally don't know what businesses would be a good fit there.

Default Bowie residents protest proposed (Duvall Center) Walmart

Quote:
Clemmie Strayhorn, 78, who said he has lived in Bowie for 30 years, added that the Walmart is unnecessary and will impede traffic. He said area residents who wish to patronize Walmart can drive to the Capital Plaza Walmart, about nine miles away.

The fact that the county agreed to this Walmart, in a small area, when one is less than 15 mins away is baffling Why not just expand that Walmart into a Super walmart? They at least have the room for it there. If they're trying to sell the idea that the Duvall location will work, they should at least provide designs of the proposed store and how it will "fit within and improve the design of the existing shopping center"

Looks like Walmart decided to renovate the existing Walmart on Crain Hwy in Bowie instead of building a new one across the street?

Quote:
At a Dec. 10 presentation, Wal-Mart representatives discussed plans to expand their current Clinton and Landover Hills stores to include full grocery components and reinvent the current Bowie location as a 186,000-square-foot flagship superstore.
