I was just there today and the mall felt weird. The escalators weren't running, cheesecake factory seemed dead, and the the William Sonoma that I went to was 20% off. I didn't realize the entire mall was closing but looking back it definitely makes sense.

I guess this is why there is a new Cheesecake factory at Montgomery mall?

White Flint mall for a while has felt like a nursing home. No one under 40 shops there and its NEVER busy. I think part of the mall's decline comes from a lack of accessibility. You can only reach it by car from one side and the metro is such a long walk away that you would rather take a bus. Years ago there was a free shuttle from the metro but it stopped.

The Bethesda Blog has been reporting on the closures at White Flint Mall.
Worth reading if you haven't been to the mall recently:

Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row: WHITE FLINT MALL TENANTS EXITING EN MASSE AHEAD OF DEMOLITION (PHOTOS)

It's like the zombie apocolypse in there. More employees than shoppers.

End of an era. Turning it into a Town Center? Somehow not quite the same.

Nope. Not the same at all. I guess we've determined we need more sunlight in our lives.

I personally feel that the "Town Center" concept is horrific. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. I have absolutely no use for a "town center," and the name itself is a direct assault on what actually made the United States great.....the real concept of a "town center." Not this made up craptastic village of storefronts with the same retailers found in every other "town center" in the country.

Gag-A-Maggot!!

Thats right, they moved. I wonder where Changs is going? White Flint died, thats it. Borders went out of business, Bloomies left, and who shops at Lord and Taylor? The mall just died and was out done by Westfields.
