Thats your opinion however Old Town Takoma Park is not highly populated destination for working and shopping....

Since when is downtown Wheaton "sleepy"?

Everytime I drive through there it is all hustle and bustle. There are lots of mom and pop shops and small restaurants- you know, the businesses that everyone weeps for when a Walmart or Home Depot decloaks off the bow.

Granted it could use a tweak here and there, but turning it into something out of Logan's Run or Dallas is a mistake. Those town centers in Silver Spring and Rockville look like B movie scenery. When did America lose her sense of aethestics?

Well, I guess the idiots, scuse me, good people of the Free State need more Ruby Tuesdays and TGIF Fridays. They'll get em. And maybe even another Ben & Jerry's.

A proposal to revive downtown Wheaton-let's hope it goes better than the construction of the transit center in Silver Spring.

Its an Bad Idea...They should continue to develop Downtown Silver Spring because it has more potential of becoming new Rossyln.

Downtown Silver Spring is 70% there, I feel they should just finish

Wondered that myself. I think developers like to build cheap and safe. No out of the ordinary designs tht turn people/tenants off. They like functional buildings these days, that means, big boxes...

They can revive both areas at the same time there is enough population for it but it is how they are developing/redeveloping the two areas.......

Why would anyone want to create "the new Rossyln"?? Rossyln is a horrible place. Cement, traffic and pedestrians, then after work, a ghost town. What a horrible place. Creating the next Ballston, perhaps, but not Rossyln.

Okay I agree Ballston would be pretty nice......overall Downtown Silver Spring is 70% there. They should finish it first than transition to Wheaton

What is the 30% needed? What does Silver Spring need? I think the Georgia Ave corridor needs upgrading some, I walked down the street recently, not too far, but seems like its being upgraded. There are a lot of older 70's style buildings owned by old time rich developers like the Gudelsky family, Blair Lee, and others, but they arent going anywhere with the vacancy rate so high. More retail? perhaps, white table cloth restaurants? can the demographics support that?

Lets see here:

How about:

Adding more upscale retail to city place

Build more office buildings

Add more retail like Best Buy, Target, etc.

Bring back Ruby Tuesdays

Build a Panda Express, IHOP, BBQ Hibatchi Grill

Why does anyone -need- a Ruby Tuesdays??? I can tell you w/o a doubt that my ever expanding list of bookmarks of places to go, see and patronize does not include (yet another) Ruby Tuesdays. Just sayin'
