Just wanted to make a thread to see if anybody ever had any random things happened to you while on Metro (Subway and/or Bus). I thought about this when I came across a thread on the NYC forum with the posters discussing their experiences with the Subway up there. They told some very interesting stories, some made you shock, happy, sad, mad, disgusted, curious, cringe, etc. So I thought I would see if anyone here in the DMV have ever had anything crazy, weird, amazing, frightening, random, cute, lovely, etc. happened to them while riding Metro.

What's your story?

I think there aren't a lot of people in this forum that has had anything to happen to them personally, but have probably witnessed something happen to someone else. I used to commute on the metro 14 years ago. Nothing happened to me besides falling asleep and missing my stop.

NYC is a pretty interesting place by itself. So I'm sure more happens on their transit system than ours.

Hated to post, because my incidents aren't very fun...

Let's see, I rarely ride metro, but when I was traveling to an interview a couple of years ago I got on a car in the middle of the morning, sat down, and noticed that the guy across the aisle has a whole collection of hard core porn, featuring guys, spread out on the seat and in his lap. I moved. Don't know if he was advertising or what.

And, I've had an obviously high guy ask me for money and when I said no he just stood there staring at me, until another potential sucker got on the train and gave him money. I was grateful, wondered if I should be prepared with cash to get the addict to leave me alone next time.

The only cute thing I have ever seen on metro: a train that was starting and stopping, seemly random, between Twinbrook and Rockville. It was a mostly empty car except for us and two families with a lot of small kids. The kids started making a game of it and would run as fast as they could in the car and then all fall down in a pile when the operator put on brakes. It was pretty amusing for us too At least it kept us occupied while watching the traffic on Rockville Pike go faster than we did.

Metro is pretty mundane compared to NYC subways. The first week I moved to NYC I witnessed two fights, a shouting match and was kicked off two trains because the air conditioner broke. This was in the summer of 2001.
