We lived and worked in DC and Virginia for years and are being relocated back to the area for good. We now have 2, soon to be 3 kids so our focus is on family friendly neighborhoods. This will be a forever move so schools are our main concern. Our oldest child will be entering kindergarten and will have an iep, need special needs resources. He is currently in a general education full inclusion setting and is thriving, which we would like to see continue if possible. Since the next two tours will be in suitland followed by bolling, we would like to move to the Maryland side. Anyone have good recommendations for great schools, especially if you have a special needs child?

Areas we are focusing on so far seem to be mostly Montgomery towns like Gaithersburg, Olney, Ashton, Laytonsville and Ijamsville (which keeps popping up as great schools) and then down towards Charlotte Hall, Prince Frederick areas. We are ok with an hour commute or so, it's more important that the school and home/property works for us. We also have over an hour commute into NYC daily so are used to it lol. And Frederick, too far or manageable? We used to have a coworker who did the commute from Frederick to McLean, Va and survived.

Thanks for any feedback. I've reached out to special needs support groups locally but not getting great feedback. I think we come from a pro inclusion setting and some families don't feel that way.

I would love to suggest Frederick County but the commute may be a bit much. If the worksite is Metro accessable it could be workable (MARC or 991 Express Bus to Metro) Our family used Frederick County Schools for 3 kids all of whom had IEPs All have been very successful. I think all Frederick County Schools are very good to excellent if the parents stay involved but of course some are better than others. The Middletown feeder area is excellent and I understand the Urbana feeder area is also excellent
