The suburbs are dying in general. All the investment and money that used to go into them is now going primarily into cities and urban areas. The lack of investment that lead our cities to fall apart in the 80's and 90's will likely start happening in the suburbs if it hasn't started already. And as more people flee, prices will drop and the lower class/bad element will start moving in.. leading to more disinvestment.

Governor Hogan has KILLED the Watkins Mill Interchange, right by Lakeforest Mall. This project was the center for economic redevelopment in the area surrounding Lakeforest Mall. The project was estimate to bring in $100 million in yearly revenue the state and crate over 11,000 jobs.

Because Hogan killed the Watkins Mill Interchange, the economic benefits are gone! The developers who have already invested in projects connected to the Watkins Mill Interchange have cut bait and are looking for other opportunities in more favorable business states.

As a republican, I'm embarrassed that the man I voted for, Larry Hogan, has closed Maryland for business!!!

The way I read it is, Hogan didn't KILL it. MDOT or SHA did. Maybe thats one and the same, and maybe it got caught up in Hogan's new budget, as he was trying to undue the O'malley tax increases and so forth. I'm not sure....Second, It appears they want to re-study this interchange to see if it adds to more traffic on I-270. Whether you buy that or not....completely up to you.

Also, that interchange doesnt SURROUND the mall, which is what I thought you were referencing. The interchange stoppage does impact the area's office space and tenants. I get that.
