$40 isn't expensive for a gym. It's what the neighborhood can support.

I think the neighborhood could support $70. BUt unfortunately, a lot of the new apartments come with gyms on-site. If none of these apartments had gyms, I'm sure more than a few people would support a $70/month gym (Sport & Health). Especially with the $10/gyms being overcrowded. I dunno. I like amenities. I want a $70 gym nearby. lol I think LA Fitness is $40/month. Or is it $30?

The Gold's Platinum gyms seem to be $50/month regular price. $60 for enhanced platinum.

I think it's pretty expensive imo, Gold's is right on par with LA Fitness, it's $24.99 for the membership at Belcrest Plaza LA Fitness, they've got a Sauna, a lap pool, and a whirlpool...I think the biggest asset Gold's is going to offer me is new equipment, but likely lose amenities unless they've left out so major ones like a pool, basketball court, racket ball.

Well, if the Riverdale Park one is Platinum in terms of amenities and it's the only Platinum in the country, I'd hope they'd offer a little more than the average gym. I think a pool isn't too much to ask. Or at least a hot tub. A sauna/steam room seems average to me and not deserving of a Platinum rating in my opinion.

Doing a little research on Google doesn't mention much about the new tiers. The rating system must be VERY new.

Okay. The tier system is not new, but there's no real distinction. So, I'm at a loss at what to expect at a Platinum level Gold's Gym.

So at Gold's Ritchie Station which is 24 hours, it's $9.99 a month for an annual agreement gold's gym membership, $19.99 if you want to go month to month, and $29.99 a month if you want access multiple locations...so as of now, it's cheaper to join elsewhere and come here on a multi location membership.

Ritchie Station is part of a franchise group, "GOLD'S GYM MARYLAND GROUP" and not part of the corporate run Gold's gyms which have the Gold, Platinum, and Black level designations. You can tell by the difference in website designs. The franchise gyms have black background websites whereas the corporate tiered gyms seem to have the white background websites that look completely different. You can also see the different domain names.

https://www.goldsgym.com/riverdale-park-md/
https://goldsgymmaryland.com/capitol-heights/

Here is what the corporate website says:

Quote:
Your club access depends on the membership you purchase. Single club memberships include access only to the club of purchase. All-Club access depends on membership purchased. You will receive access to all clubs at the “club level” that you purchase, and all clubs below that level. Gold’s currently has Gold, Platinum, and Black level clubs. Gold level memberships include access to Gold level clubs. Platinum level memberships include access to all Platinum and Gold level clubs. Black level memberships and Studio or Bootcamp bundled monthly EFT memberships include access to all clubs (Black, Platinum and Gold level). Memberships can be upgraded to include access to higher level clubs for additional fees. Facilities and amenities vary by location. Clubs may change level designation, level titles, and may open or close without notice. Gold, Platinum and Black level locations do not include access to Franchise gyms.
ANd they should probably stipulate that memberships purchased at a franchise club do not automatically include access to a tiered corporate run gym.

I can't see how a $59 membership at a platinum level corporate gym can't get you access to Ritichie Station, a Franchise gym, but a $29 membership at Ritchie Station can get you into Riverdale Park. Just seems flawed.

Has anyone here gotten a response from Gold's? I called that number on Tuesday, Friday and today and was told they knew nothing of the Riverdale location and would have to have someone call me back.

All I wanted to know was if they had a family membership. I spoke to a few folks in the neighborhood and they all said they are also waiting for calls back. Not a good sign for how this location is going to be run considering they put today's date as the deal expiration date.

Things should clear up closer to opening. I wouldn't expect much from them until there is actually a Riverdale Park team to contact. I signed up and my membership doesn't start until March 21st.

THe amenities list on the website is anemic for what they call a platinum level gym. I expect that list to expand closer to opening as well.

I'd expect things to become clearer by March.
