The Capital Gazette is the Annapolis Capital newspaper group.

The PG/Montgomery Gazette going under is a result of the Washington Post selling its community newspapers. The papers in Southern Maryland (Recorder, Enterprise, Independent-one in each of the 3 Counties) were also sold by the Post and are remaining open.

Apparently the buyers didn't want the Gazette and Bezos (owns the Post) didn't think they fit in with what he wants to do.

Remember there used to be Prince George's and Montgomery Journal pair of papers, also. They closed down.

The Gazette was a good resource, particularly during election season.

There are a bunch of independent, locally owned news sites that cover MoCo. Here are a few run by the Suburban News Network. They are stepping up to fill to the gap left by traditional local media going away. Add more if you know any others.

Bethesda/Chevy Chase: Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row
Rockville: Rockville Nights
Gaithersburg: Sam Eig
Silver Spring: East MoCo

These are digital only, so it won't help if you miss the print newspaper

A sad day. I loved reading the Gazette for local news.
