Across the street from me a Chinese Investment firm bought a foreclosed house and are busy rehabbing it. This bespeaks the money leaving China due to their uncertain stock market, but also that they are looking for low cost investment wherever they can find it.

I hope it is a trend.

This is nothing new and doesn't bespeak anything. China has been purchasing U.S. real estate for decades.

They have heretofore focused on major cities, not dumpy SFR in PG County.

Maybe its because of the MGM? Someone posted an article about the casino catering to the Chinese.

Didn't know you had the skinny on every Chinese investment dollar coming out of the Asian continent.

Do you have any evidence that the OP is lying?

Talk about timing. lol This further validates the OP's post.

Quote:
Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. has formed a partnership with China’s largest real estate portal, Juwai.com, to connect homebuyers from mainland China with sellers in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.
Maryland is the second-most popular state for Chinese real estate buyers, according to second quarter data from Juwai.com, behind North Carolina. Virginia ranks No. 5 and the District is No. 6.

Interesting that they see potential in the area. I'm assuming that they will act as landlords until property values increase and then potentially flip for a profit. Maybe they know more than we residents do about the plans for the area.

The Chinese are essentially buying US Green Cards under the EB-5 program that has been around for years. Baker pushed that heavily on his trip to China a couple of years ago. I believe one or more of the new developments on R1 in CP is substantially Chinese funded.

Quote:
Las Vegas has seen a recent boom in using regional centers and EB-5 funding to build new casino projects. In 2013 the first EB-5 project the Downtown Grand was built followed by SLS formerly the Sahara Hotel. Additional New Casino Projects obtaining EB-5 funding on the Las Vegas strip include Lucky Dragon, Dynasty Hotel Casino, Clarion Hotel, and World Resorts.[14] Foreign investors are also being solicited to invest in Las Vegas' SLS Hotel & Casino.[15]

Major developers have begun to form their own regional centers with the goal of soliciting EB-5 investments. Silverstein Properties, for example, has marketed their Downtown Manhattan The Four Seasons Restaurant as an "EB-5 investment opportunity" on their website. Other projects that have received EB-5 Regional Center funding include the Hudson Yards Redevelopment Project, the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal, and the New York Wheel.[16]

I didn't know about Chinese investors, but personally know two investors from Europe buying in PG County. They see the county as a good investmant opportunity.
