I consider myself a independent, closer to a libertarian if anything. Does anyone else find it alarming that local elections are over after primaries? that things are so lopsided rarely is there a Republican challenger at all? Competition makes things better by default, is the lack of competition and involvement why things are so jacked up such as school boards? etc?

I am too old be alarmed at lop-sided races. Maryland has so been heavily Democratic in the last 30 or more years that there rarely is a viable Republican. I also wish there were more competition.

I think you confusing 'THAT liberal' with simply 'usually democratic-based'. Not all democrats are hardcore liberals, just as not every republican is a hardcore conservative. I think Larry Hogan is a clear sign of that.

Also, you might want to consider the other half of the state where politics often revolve around the republican primary.

Yes, AA's in PG are largely a lock for anything with a D behind their name. They must like paying as much as possible in taxes or something.

Huh? No one likes paying taxes, obviously. That's like saying people like paying for iPhones. Obviously it'd be cool if they were free, but they're not and neither are good public services.

This has to be an unbelievably ignorant viewpoint. I'm guessing you don't know many black people.

Oh BS. Yes there are black people who are independents and vote R, but we are talking an overwhelming majority. The other poster said it: republicans here are not viable. This is due to gerrymandering on racial lines. Let's not live in fantasy land.

The issues with your post are:

1. You single out African Americans in PGC for some reason for voting democratic when there are clearly other non-AA majority counties in MD that vote democrat in elections. Why even bring that up when no one was talking about AAs or PGC?

2. You assume they like paying as much as possible in taxes as if that's the reason they would vote democrat.

This is why you received the reactions that you did to your post.

1. Because the topic is inclusive of all Maryland, of which PGC is a part. Yes, I single out AAs because they are the majority in PGC and their influence is dominant and they do vote as a block for Democrats. I bring it up just as any political observer would and it would be foolish to ignore it.

2. If you want to fund an ever bigger government, in which everything under the sun is continually taxed at increasing rates year after year, continue to vote for those who promise it.
