Ultimately I think it will just be medium - high density mixed use with emphasis on housing. Once the hospital(s) and purple line is finished, its only a matter of time.
I agree with this, I would rather it continue to sit empty until we get it "right". No sense of putting some half-ass development at that major intersection with the beltway and so much potential.

If purple line reaches there one day it will continue on to Largo/Ritchie Marlboro/Westphalia and potentially down to NH.

BTW, I drove by yesterday and they were moving dirt on what looks like to be the new Panera Bread next to 24hr Fitness at WTC.

I never knew about it until the map was posted earlier in this thread:

There are cases where owners hold out and hold out for years while developers go elsewhere. And then pretty soon, the only developers left that are interested are those very developers that want to put half-ass developments there.

If I invested in the Landover site after the mall closed, I would have pulled out a long time ago and invested in the other sites that are actually providing a return.

I'm convinced if that land was so valuable, we would see some proposed projects, sans the FBI.

I don't know. I just think it will continue to sit empty while developers continue to develop around it and at Metro/Purple Line stations. It is really difficult to get large projects off the ground in the county. ANd as long as there are other sites being developed, the Landover site will continue to sit.

Right now New Carrollton and Woodmore are stealing all the action in that area. I hope that the FBI lands in Greenbelt, but I also hope that the Landover Mall site gets a respectable development.

PS. Konterra continues to sit empty.

I think once the new zoning laws pass (hopefully this fall), it'll make it easier for developers to design and develop large projects in the county.

Default Kaiser Permanente to add new medical center in Bowie

Quote:
Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States is planning yet another medical center for Greater Washington.

The Kaiser affiliate, now a few years into an aggressive regional expansion, announced Sept. 7 plans for a new facility in Bowie to support its growing network. The building, which Kaiser will own, is scheduled to open in 2020.

The 45,558-square-foot building at 5404 Hillmeade Road will offer primary care, behavioral health, optometry, pharmacy, laboratory and imaging services, according to a release. Full details on construction cost and staff size are not yet available, a Kaiser spokesman said.

I believe this is the site behind the Gold's Gym in Fairwood.

Is this the park area by Safeway? That's a tight squeeze behind golds gym. Surprised they didn't want to take over the medical center for sale across the street. I guess they'd rather just build up.

Looks like the Lerners gave up on their FBI Landover site. Should the other developers for the other two sites bail too?

Quote:
An 80-acre Prince George's County development site that had been among the three finalists for the FBI headquarters relocation is now for sale. Lerner Enterprises is marketing the now-vacant site of the former Landover Mall, advertising its mixed-use zoning, the Washington Business Journal reports. The site is at the intersection of the Beltway and Landover Road. It is directly across the Beltway from the Woodmore Town Centre retail complex, where Wegmans opened in 2010. It is also roughly 1 mile from FedEx Field and about 2 miles from Largo Town Center, where a new $543M regional medical center is under construction.
