Drove down brightseat today and saw a bunch of people in suits standing outside of the old mall grounds. Hopefully that means people are taking interest in the site.

"THe answer to Pike & Rose"

Bold words. Konterra was supposed to rival Tyson's Corner. It's still an open field with a bridge to literally nowhere.

At least Carillon has the hospital and a metro stop going for it. So, maybe there is some hope. Second, I've been to Pike & Rose many times. They don't have the security issues that Boulevard at the CAP had a decade ago. I wonder if those security issues will be eliminated at this new development. At least I hope so.

I also wonder if the retail will be the same caliber. I have a personal issue with REI who left PG county and located all points west. There's an REI at Pike & Rose with a Columbia store across the street. Come on. People on this side have a healthy cycling community along with a lot of people that love the outdoors.

There is no outfitter store besides DICK's sporting goods? REI should locate to Carillon. But I digress.

Being on the Blue Line, there will be a challenge for those of us up here having to go through DC to get out to Largo.

A few good takaways:

1. It is TOD.
2. It improves the mid-county quality of life.
3. It should complete the Beltway communities revitalization in the county from NH, Suitland, Largo, New Carrolton, College Park, and Greenbelt with its mall soon to be redeveloped into a town center.

I agree with everything you said. Very bold words. REI was a big loss. If it comes back to the county i'm willing to bet that it will not be in central PG. Overall it does look like an upgrade from the BLVD. Love the park, maybe that will help with the security issues. I do like that the first phase will be built at once too. Yes, they are really starting to focus on the beltway communities and if they widen 495, the county will look and feel very different than it does now.

Looks like they are starting to tear down the shopping center. The hospital is coming along nicely. Did they announce the restaurants and stores that will be there yet?

County exec Alsobrooks just tweeted about Ivy City Smokehouse coming to the new Hampton Park Mall at the corner of 495 and Central Ave: https://twitter.com/CEXAlsobrooks/st...932487168?s=19

Groundbreaking scheduled for Sept 13th. Hopefully this means we'll get some more updates on the other developments planned for Hampton Park Mall.

I grew up in Glenarden btw.
..................and how far would that be from the stop just outside of Fed Ex Field?
