Lupo's was not a dive bar. However, their estimate of the cost to rehab the large building was too low. While they got it done, it put them in a financial strain that their business could not support, given the rent they to pay.

This mentions that the wine bar owned by the Platos owner is scheduled to open in a few months. Has work begun on the site (believe it is where an old auto parts store was on rt1)

This weekend in College Park

I drove by today. Nothing has changed since the announcement in 2015. Shelves from the old Auto Parts store are still up. No activity that I have seen since it closed.

It's interesting that the email came from the Mayor. I'll email him and see what the deal is.

Please do! I think a wine bar could do so well there with the new development. And you are right. There is NOTHING going on there or across the street w/the diner and the motel. I am waiting for that site to be remodeled.

I got a response. They are still going through the permitting process. But I imagine they were busy getting their new restaurant ready in the PAX river area. according to the article posted in this thread yesterday.

All I got is "hopefully this year." So, we'll see. At least we have a lot of much-anticipated projects delivering this year to keep us busy. There is The Hotel at UMD, Cambria Suites with a steak restaurant, Riverdale Park with a gym, restaurants, and Whole Foods, Milkboy + Arthouse, War Horse in the Discovery district, etc.

AS far as Plato's old property, we won't' see anything until 2018 when land acquisition is supposed to be complete and demolition permits can be given. Given the pace of things in the county, I wouldn't expect construction to begin until late 2018.

Thanks for the update. I am sure there will be a city council meeting as well about this. I will keep my eye out.

A new hotel, apartments and retail spaces are moving in near the College Park Metro A new hotel, apartments and retail spaces are moving in near the College Park Metro - The Diamondback

The site is expected to include a hotel with approximately 150 rooms and an additional 7,360 square feet of retail space, Iannucci said.

"We expect they're going to go after restaurants in particular … to meet some of the demand from the office park at M-Square," Iannucci said.

"We want quality in there," Iannucci said. "We're not looking for a low end hotel; we're looking for a very solid brand."

I am not sure how I feel about even more hotels.
