Bottom line is that 10-15 years ago these violent crimes were all but non existent, hence the reason most migrated to southern Maryland to begin with. Now with an influx of heroin/opioid usage, weekly fatal dope overdoses, violence, and property crime, it is just not a great place to raise a family anymore.

The worst thing used to be some drunk nut job killing someone in a car accident, or a rare homicide (usually domestic related). Not drug deals gone bad, or innocent kids getting murdered after a house party (which by the way is the second one of those that happened recently. Another kid was killed at a house party last year in waldorf).

It is what it is bro. Sorry
Considering this site is called 'city-data', I find it amusing that you have completely failed to produce any data to back up your claims (newspaper/blogsite clippings are not data. They are anecdotal evidence at best). And even better, you attempt to refute my claims, which are backed up by actual data with pretty little hyperlinks and everything, based on personal.... feelings? Thoughts of yesteryear? That's quite pleasant for you, I'm sure, but again, NOT DATA.

Well seeing as how the law you support, even though you admitted it wouldn't do anything about murders, resulted in a de facto ban I guess we can argue semantics.

As far as crime stats go, this year's aren't in but it has been a busy year in SoMD. The opioid epidemic really exploded. Likely 80 or 90% of arrests here, keeping in mind I receive monthly breakdowns so I do sorta know what the trends are, involve opioids. I mean things like speeding stops result in finding one or another substance almost half the time.

What you're ignoring is that people's view on crime is driven by perception. It doesn't matter how many links you post.

Going back to guns for a minute. The murder rate is at historic lows nationwide yet people will swear that it's higher than it's ever been. Perception, due to publicity, not stats rule the day.

And, being that we participate in a website literally called 'city-data', you don't think the discussions here should have basis in those facts, rather than perception? Anyone that takes data, information, math and science seriously, or even light-heartedly (sp?), should reject anecdotal evidence and continue to be a vessel for discussions based in fact, when possible.

Yes that argument would certainly end up in semantics, a place I don't enjoy. I am disappointed my support for certain gun restrictions devolved into the completely absurd regulations that we currently have. A compromise in the middle would have been effective and fair to everyone IMO. History certainly shows evidence of DEMs taking it waaaaay too far in regards to policies related to the 2nd amendment.

Data is fine but that's not what people internalize. What they do internalize is teen chased down and shot after party, teen killed at party, teen unintended victim of drive by shooting, teen killed behind theater, another teen killed at party (he was one of my students. Having said that, he was also the kind of kid you just knew when he was in 9th grade that someone would get tired of and bust a cap in), man killed leaving bar, couple assaulted, wife killed, on jogging trail, Fastop robbed, clerk beaten.

I'm sure this would be very relevant if we were talking about Baltimore or Frederick. However the lady asked about St. Charles Mall, specifically Waldorf AMC Theaters.

The area is a cesspool, and I wouldn't set foot in that turd hole of a mall for anything. My last straw was when those two moron girls robbed the Victoria secret in broad daylight and on camera.

Southern Maryland is not this this pristine Utopia you want it to be, and to be honest it hasn't been that in a long time. I know the truth hurts.

So I guess the link you put out there about a crime in La Plata doesn't count either. As for the OP she was responded to ,you seem to be the one with the axe to grind in Waldorf.I if you got back and look I said it is equated to the population ,there is no Mall in Calvert County so yes you will have crimes at a Mall that are pertinent to having a Mall. Can you tell me how many stabbings there have been at the Theater in St. Charles,I'll wait.
