They probably hired her as a strategic move to develop private sector partnerships

Is that the role of a planning director? Also, not to say that she doesn't have private sector contacts but she has been with PG for about 11+ years so I am not sure that she will bring anymore to the table than they already have.

She is also taking a huge paycut to take this position.

Who was her last employer and what was her salary there. Inquiring minds want to know.

Not typically. That's usually the purview of an Economic Development Commission. Planning is Planning and making sure the proposed development plans meet local Zoning Codes and are within the scope of the Comprehensive Plan.

In fact, the head of a Planning board being involved in business development could be construed as a major conflict of interest.

This is quite upsetting. We need to address how Maryland, and PG county in particular, isn't particularly business friendly. Unless her rolodex is really deep and people owe her favors, this is a bad move. Fix the excessive and overburdensome tax situation in the county that will scares off the types of business we'd like to see here.

I dont know what the big deal honestly. That salary isnt much for a director. In the private sector lawyers make much more than that.

The big deal isn't about the money, it could $1, but the fact that specific qualifications are required for appointment to the position and she doesn't even come close to meeting them.
