THat's easy. The Pentagon and the defense industry. How many wars have we fought since the department of defense located in Alexandria? War = tons of cash for defense contractors. It is the most relatively stable industry. There's always a war or skirmish that pops up every 8 years or so. I'm not even going to get into manufactured wars to feed the military complex.

I'd imagine if the Pentagon was located in Silver Spring, Maryland would have the lion's share of the wealth in the area.

Yeah, it's still on the Top 15 list.

Take note of which Nos. 13, 14 and 15 are. Color me surprised.

Basu was correct about the predictions he made for Allegany County. We are having a commercial expansion even in the midst of continued population decline, and the commercial development money is coming in from areas from states to our west (specifically Ohio,) just like he said it would.

These list prove my point. The other counties, mainly in Virginia, are rising above Montgomery County Maryland.

1. DC - multiple Metro lines, bus lines, ferries, bike routes, etc. converge in DC as opposed to just one Metro line.

2. Alexandria - No height limit, practically in DC itself, however, Virginia politics aren't as progressive as DC, or MD and that damn traffic.

3. White Flint - Access to just ONE Metro line across an ever-expanding 355 (hello traffic). Car-Centric even with Pike & Rose and a new White Flint. Would continue the suburban office park model that corps are moving away from.

4. Loudoun County - Damn near ex-urban. Entertainment and recreation can't compare to DC and its inner suburbs. Doesn't matter if data centers are located out there.
That would be something in Virginia's favor.

Good luck with that!
Minor correction: IAD is international----DCA is domestic only.
