Hello,
I am relocating from TX to MD and considering a house that is near the MARC orange line near the intersection of Liberty Mill Rd and Mateny Hill Rd in Germantown (close to Germantown Rd, near the station). The house is about 500 feet from the tracks with lots of trees in between. My questions: is the MARC train noisy? If so, at what hours? Also, how do I find out if those tracks are only for the MARC or if freight trains also run on that track? It's a beautiful historic house and I would be lucky to live there, I think, unless the train noise is unbearable! I currently live near an Air Force base but the planes usually only fly during the day. It's very loud/window-rattling, but not very frequent.
Thank you

When I posted earlier, I didn’t have time to explain more. We used to live in Gaithersburg about a mile from those tracks. Maybe it was a little more than a mile. I’m deaf, so it didn’t bother me, but my daughter told me she could hear the trains at night. I didn’t think the sound carried that far, but she said it did.

The MARC trains run on the freight train tracks rather than the freight trains running on the MARC tracks. I hope that makes sense.
