In this list, USA picked a neighborhood in each state that has the best quality of life. In Maryland, they selected Bowie, citing its quality of life. Nearby state picks include Middletown, DE; Waynesboro, VA; and Franklin Park, PA.

Snippet: Just a short commute from Washington, D.C., Bowie, Maryland, provides easy access to high-paying jobs in and around the nation's capital. Most households in Bowie earn more than $106,000 per year – over $30,000 higher than Maryland's state median household income.

Interesting. Wonder what happened to Columbia. Too wealthy? Wait, I forgot, these are paid rankings.

That's why I don't like these USA Today rankings. It's an advertisement for these places.

The public schools in Bowie aren't ranked that high.

Of all the great places in Maryland, Bowie might be the best value out there. I don't think its a bad pick. Did you see the rest of the list? Looks very reasonable outside of Jackson WY and Ketchikan AK, both tourist traps for the wealthy.

Agree on the bolded. Bowie isn't perfect, but all things considered (especially value), it's a pretty nice place.

It's not really a short commute though, is it? If you work in downtown D.C. it looks like an hour plus to me either way whether you drive or take public transit or a combination thereof. Sure, it's by no means the worst commute in this region, but 'short' should be defined as routinely done in 30 mins or less.

Guess I need to drive through Bowie again. It never struck me as the "best" of anything, even in an area as bland as middle Maryland.
