Hi-

We currently rent in Gaithersburg but we're looking to possibly buy in Gaithersburg, Germantown, or Clarksburg (and we're open to some other areas too). We've done a bit of research and feel like we want to avoid Montgomery Village because of crime statistics. Any other areas to avoid? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I'd avoid being near the Montgomery Airpark in Gaithersburg because of plane noise and potential crashes. (I remember one crashed into a house.) I'd probably avoid the area near the County Fairgrounds because of traffic. Personally, I'd avoid areas near middle and high schools because I don't like kids trooping past the house, and I am an old grump.<G>

I personally like Kentlands because of the convenience of have shopping and restaurants planned within the community.

Another hint: use the tools provided by some real estate searches which show you noise and crime. Be sure to get a home inspection to look for cheap construction and potential repair costs.

The Kentlands area is nice. I would check out Olney as well.

I remember for years up here around the local High School students parked around the neighborhood. For decades they did this, and when the area became more diverse they stopped it. Now I wonder why.....

(I am not located in the DC Metro.)

Crown is a very nice newer still expanding planned community in Gaithersburg. We go out of our way to shop at the Harris Teeter in Downtown Crown. The Rio shopping mall (with a Target) is very close. Kentlands is not too far from there.
