Hi all!

I am a transfer student for the fall at American University. The University did not have enough room for all transfers, so they are in negotiations with The Georgian apartment complex in Silver Spring, MD. The complex is on Georgia Ave. near Fenwick Ln. and 1st Ave.

I am considering taking them up on their offer for residency for the Fall term.

I have only been to Silver Spring once (went to the AFI Silver theatre) and it seemed very nice, but I pretty much stuck to two block of Colesville Rd.

Could any of you give me anymore insight into the area? Is it generally safe? Especially to and from the metro station at night? Lots of young people? I'm a 20 year old female.

Also, if you know anything about The Georgian, I'd be interested to know more about that.

ANY information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

It's a generally safe area that has a pretty good mix of young professionals and families. Downtown SS has gone through pretty nice gentrification, so there may be occasional petty crime, which is not that unusaul being so close to DC.

The only issue is that the metro from Silver Spring to American University might be an issue as you have to gone through downtown DC to get to upper NW DC.

Silver Spring to AU will be a long metro ride. And, you're going to have to walk or take a shuttle once you get to Tenleytown metro. I'd look for an apartment closer to the university.
