There's a Marriott Residence Inn right in Bethesda. That's efficiencies without needing a lease at all. What does he want to spend?

As a last resort, he could probably find something in a group house, even in Bethesda. In the Washington Post classified ads, there's usually lots of availability. Sometimes they'll let you go month to month.

Has he checked CraigsList for a roommate/ house share? He also might want to check with a RE agent - just in case. They usually have some info.
