I would be in College Park because you'd be very close to the greenbelt/collegepark metro, and all the fun stuff to do (nightlife etc.) is in DC.

If you live in the north end of College Park there is a path to the Greenbelt Metro, and if you live in the south end, then College Park Metro has entrances on both sides. However, you will probably like Silver Spring or DC better. The Ikea isn't near enough to either station to walk unless you like walking a long distance. Beltsville is also close to the Ikea, but I'm not sure how someone from the UK would like it there.

Its a college town. There are bars, resturants and nightclubs. On Rt1 (Baltimore Ave.) from DC straight to College Park there is Mt. Rainier, Brentwood, Hyattsville, Riverdale-Bladensburg then College Park. My feeling is just over the DC line isn't where I'd live but housing is less expensive (not the best of DC). As you travel north the costs most likely would rise. Many moons ago I lived in Riverdale, Hyattsville and Beltsville. If I was much younger and had a choice in order to be close to work it would be College Park and or Beltsville.

I am looking for somewhere to move to - ideally within 30mins rush hour traffic away.

Not too worried about having large yard or garden, what is important is that there are great restaurants, bars and shops nearby. Gyms and Parks good too.

I think my budget will be about $300,000

Any ideas???
Columbia, Laurel, Md are nice areas

Default Got the job!

I did it!
I am due to go over for a 'look and see' visit for a week any time soon.

A few people have mentioned Silver Spring....but nobody on here has.
Any ideas?

Looks like I will be renting, rather than buying as well

Thanks again

Silver Spring ( near downtown SS) is your best bet for what you want.

Yes Silver Spring or Columbia sounds like what your looking for. It's ok to work in PG county , but I wouldn't want to live there anymore. Oh and I grew up there "Clinton"..so I know first hand.

Good luck with the New Job......and hope you like it here in the States.
