how long of a commute to Silver Spring from Potomac?

Is Potomac safe?

What is the best area to live in Potomac if you have around 1M to spend on a house.

No children, coming from Long Island and we enjoy great dinning and theatre, arts, etc. Where would be the best place to live and commute to Silver Spring?

Potomac, MD is reputed to be very uniformly expensive. Of all the communities in MD, this is a community in which safety would be the least worrisome. I have been in MD for a while and have never heard of there being issues with safety in Potomac.

Potomac/Great Falls is considered like one of the top areas for wealthy people to live in this region. The only danger might be from all the bmw's and jaguars parking next to each other at whole foods. Its a nice area and if I had a mill to drop would definitely consider it..

I can't comment on commuting times, but have you considered Bethesda instead of Potomac? Bethesda has more of a downtown - tons of great restaurants/theatre/arts.

When we first moved to this area, DH and I (DINKS at that time of our lives) lived in Bethesda and loved it.

Potomac is a very exclusive area with virtually no "bad" areas, but it mostly made up of families with houses on large parcels of land. There is no metro stop, or much retail so you would be going to Rockville or Bethesda for dining, entertianment, etc.

Bethesda, Chevy Chase or even downtown Silver Spring (zip 20910) might be better alternatives for you than Potomac as each of the cities have downtown areas and a vast selection of dining options. This area would also be easier to commute to Silver Spring.

Another option is NW DC, particularly in areas such as American University Park, Friendship Heights, or Chevy Chase-DC might be additional options, especially since you don't have children and schools won't be a priority.
