I have chosen Greenbelt because....if you have read my previous post it explains that I am currently in a long distance relationship, so I come to Maryland every other weekend. When in Maryland I stay in Greenbelt. I have had a chance to drive through the area and so far I liked what I have seen compared to some of the other areas that I have driven through. I have spoke to a few people in regards to the schools in the area and everyone that I have spoken to only had positive things to say about Eleanor Roosevelt. I have a teenage daughter and a 7 year old and their education is very important to me so basically I am trying to decide where I will live based on the school that they would attend. Also, my significant other lives in New Carrolton which is close by. I want to be closer to him without being right up on him.

If you truly value the quality of schools, then I suggest you consider Howard or Montgomery Cty instead.

PG probably has the worst school system in the DC area (excluding DC), and has the 2nd worst performing schools in Maryland, with Baltimore City in the bottom.

Also, PG will be losing their Superintendent soon, Dr. Deasy, who's made big changes/improvements since he came about 3 years ago. Now, they are searching for a replacement.

PG's got good ES schools if you're in the right area, but once you advance to MS and HS, it goes downhill from there.

That website is one of the worst website to judge a school base off of.
If you want to be accurate and 100% true information about the school here is the right website.

System Links

When you click the link you can then select the school then scroll to the bottom of the page and select MD school Assessment.

Since you are interest in Beltsville here is the Assessment for Beltsville elementary.

Check this new link out.

Out of 24 counties in Maryland, PG now ranks dead last. Even Baltimore City schools are ranked higher now.

Smile Wow

Thank you all for the school link that you have posted....based on what I have seen Eleanor Roosevelt High School would be the high school of choice and being that my 7 year old has always attended a montessori school Robert Goddard Montessori would be my elementary of choice. So I guess now all I have to do is find an apartment in that area....so now the hard part begins

Before you get all excited about Eleanor Roosevelt High School keep in mind that admittance to the Science and Tech Program there (which is the only reason it's reputation is what it is) is after a very rigorous round of testing. It's not an automatic thing. If you factor out that program ER is in the bottom third of PG County schools on all measures. The same with the other two S and T magnets, Flowers and Oxon Hill. Taking that into account the usual top three high schools in PG are Laurel, Bowie and Frederick Douglass (in Upper Marlboro, not the one that was on HBO recently). Someone mentioned the athletic program at ER. It was investigated last year for using ineligible players and several teams had to retoactively forfeit games. The ER area is a hotbed of social problems, gang infiltration and petty (and not so petty) crime.
Bona fides for me? 25 year PG teacher.

If you can get your daughter in Roosevelt's magnet program, that would be great. Otherwise I can tell you that PG county schools suck, majorly. When we lived in PG we did private schools. If your children are not use to kids behaving VERY badly, I wouldn't suggest it at all.

She says its like a different world. Many students that go to Roosevelt are from the Spring Hill Lake apartments. This is a huge complex that has been having problems for years. Having said that, though, the Roosevelt Administration is very committed to their students. The athletic program is amongst the best and they also have a high graduation rate for this area.

My son went to Laurel HS and it was totally different than Roosevelt. I'm very happy my daughter knew to work hard to not have to go there.

You sound like you have a very smart young lady there, congratulations.
