Moving to Laurel - any suggestions on the following would be appreciated:

1) quality dry cleaner (willing to pay more for truly cleaned clothes. . .)
2) pediatric dentist
3) pediatrician
4) barber shop - hubby needs someone who can cut thick curly hair with an electric clipper. . .
5) local food joints that are YUMMY!

Thanks again!

Dentist wise, I would think Batz & Weiner would have a pediatric dentist. They have a number of specialists there. I'm seeing a periodontist there because I'm so lazy about flossing. Drs. Batz & Weiner

Concerning barber shops, the 198 barber shop is really good. I get my hair cut there and, I've never been displeased with them plus, you'll get a free bag of popcorn while you wait. 198 BARBER SHOP Laurel, Maryland (http://www.198barbershop.com/index.htm - broken link)

My favorite restaurant in Laurel is Sakura's. They serve really good Japanese food. It's one of those places where they prepare it right in front of you while you wait. They juggle spatulas and eggs with spatulas, make mini-volcanos with cooking oil and onion rings and give free refills on soft drinks. Once you get here, if you watch in the mail, there are these packs of coupons that come through the mail called Valupaks. Once a quarter, Sakura's will have a coupon in them for 10% off your meal. I've used those a number of times. This is located just down from the Academy Ford Dealership on Route 1/Baltimore-Washington Boulevard.

If you're hunkering for a special ice cream treat, I'd recommend the Coldstone Creamery which isn't that far from Sakura's. This is located at the shopping center area on the corner of Route 1 and Contee Road. It's right next to TNT Nails.

I forgot. Another good restaurant in the Laurel area is Ramshead Tavern in Savage Mill which is just off of Gorman Road. Also, they have some neat shops in the small mill complex. The mill is historic as I believe it goes back to the 1800's. Other can tell you more about it.

There used to be a great little Italian place called Pasta Plus. It was in the shopping center with blue store fronts on Rt 1 a bit east of the mall.

Pasta Plus is still there and always packed. Another good Italian place is across from the hospital -- Pasta Nostra. Red, Hot, and Blue on Main Street is good for bar-b-que. There are tons of chain restaurants also. Bottom of the Bay is a dive but it has decent seafood. There is a barbershop around 8th and Montgomery Street (Slyes) that only charges $8 (might have raised the price but no more than $10) for every hair cut. Children's Hospital has a medical center in the Laurel Lakes area that I've taken my daughter to (specialist--not her regular doctor).

I agree with kjg1963 about Pasta Nostra having good Italian food. If you play the airmile game, I know they're in Northwest Airlines dining program. Also, they're easy enough to get to. They're in a small strip mall just off of Van Dusen Road between Killbarron and Contee Roads.

Thanks! Another thing I forgot to add was a vet . . .for our Siamese cat (and preferably one that boards cats for those very rare times when we can take a few days to the beach. ..)

One of the best vets is Rocky Gorge Animal Hospital. They just built a brand new facility and it has boarding also. They are a little pricey, but the quality of care is great.
