I have accepted a position at the Uniformed Services Naval Base across the street from the NIH. Plan to start on 1st May 2009. I am single and looking for suggestions to rent an apartment:

1) Budget : 800-1100$

2) Have lived in a really small place before. So would love to be able to get to work within 10 minutes - drive/bike/walk.

3) It's a research position so will have to be at work at odd hours

4) Single so even studios are fine and don't care much about "nightlife"

5) Safe location

6) High rises are fine

7) Have checked online and found "8200 Wisconsin" to be interesting Bethesda Apartments for Rent - Bethesda Apartments Reviews and Ratings

8) Any suggestions will help a lot. I am kinda worried about surviving in such an expensive city.

I wont be making a lot of money (40,000$ / year) so looking for thoughtful suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Patrick

You may want to also check Craigs list. If you don't mind having something in a house there is always that option. Are there folks you can have check the bulletin board for you at the office. I know of people who advertise there for renters.

Thanks. Do you have names of few apartments where I can call and inquire about their rates. Even websites would be fine. I sincerely appreciate your help.
