Soon after filling an application for a place on castle blvd, right off of briggs chaney rd, I found horrible reviews about the neighborhood. Is it really an unsafe place to live with family?
How about the schools there?
I had heard that Silver Spring is a good area overall.

What's a good area to rent a two bed-room apt near UMD under $1400? Does Bethesda or Chevy Chase have apts in that range?
If you know of specific bldngs or managements that are very good, it would help even more. Thanks!

My friend just recently moved in an apartment in that area. She did extensive research because there are so many apartments in that area. She told me that the apartments closer to the shopping center are not as nice as the ones further away from it.

I agree with the response directly above mine here.
I grew up and my parents still live on Briggs Chaney west of rt. 29. the east side of 29 is completely different b/c there are multiple apartment complexes along with SFH and TH developments. Wherever you have dense multi-family dwellings, you are going to have problems. You just have to do your research. There is alot of traffic from the apartments over to BC shopping center where the Safeway is. I used to go to the pool off Greencastle when there was nothing out there but the pool and golf course (which is where all the houses are now!). THere is a nice park on greencastle road heading towards powder mill road that the county maintains. Bethesda and CC may have studios or 1 bedrooms in your range but those cities are not close to UMD/College Park. Have you thought about Rt. 1 right at 95 in PG - I don't know what the complex is called but there are relatively new apartments right near the IKEA . . .and you are literally right up the road from UMD.

Here is the school data for the es and ms in the Castle area. I believe the hs would be Paint Branch but this area may be in the NE consortium where you have some choice in where you go to HS based on the grad track you are interested in.
