I live a few blocks from there on fleet and luzerne. I have no problem walking around at night or leaving jeep parked anywhere around. My neighbors all seem to feel its a safe area as well, and i have yet to have a reason to think otherwise.

I consider that area Highlandtown. According to the Baltimore Guide there was a shooting in the 500 S Potomac St. the other day. That would be between Fleet and Eastern.

Shooting
S. Potomac Street, 500 block, August 2, 12:47 a.m. Police reported to the scene of a shooting and found a 34-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the right leg. The victim, who was on probation at the time, was taken to a local hospital.

Apparently my post never came through. Canton is a good neighborhood, but the neighborhoods across the park ARE NOT. They house many low-income citizens who know crime as a way of life. It's as simple as that. The more wealthy people that move in, the more temptation for them to come over & rough them up. I grew up in Canton and witnessed countless criminal acts. Please remember, it is still the City.

PS. Fleet & Luzerne is Canton. Anything across Eastern Avenue is Highlandtown.

Fleet and Potomac is in Canton, an upscale gentrified area. You'd be ok living there.

The general rule goes (moving northward from the inner harbor):

The harbor to Eastern Ave - Great (Canton)
Eastern to Pratt - Good (Highlandtown)
Pratt to Fayette - Transitional (Patterson Park aka "Baltimore-Linwood")
North of Fayette - Lock your doors and don't get out of your car.

How is the East Side of the park?

The east side of the park is Highlandtown/Patterson Park. Stick to anything west of Highland until you get to Pratt. Then, south of Pratt and further east is fine. Greektown would be even farther east and that seems fine although I am not to familiar with it.

Greektown is a decent relatively safe neighborhood.
