What is the elementary school like? What are the options for middle and high school? I've heard PG schools are terrible, so what are the options after elementary school?

If you live in or near University Park, how long is the commute to downtown DC (Metro Center)?

Thank for any info.

The new principal is wonderful. In general, it is a good school with involved parents and community and most of the teachers are top notch. Lots of academic families (since the proximity to UMD), so many kids are from families invested in education. Most kids go on to Hyattsville Middle, and then the more academically-minded kids test into Roosevelt. Other options include Holy Redeemer and Friends Community School (both go to 8th grade) for families who have concerns about the public school system.

Re: other question about commute - about 30 minutes/rush hour to Metro Center (I used to take College Park to Ft. Totten to Metro Center) but you could shorten that by going PG Plaza to Gallery Place (all green line) and just walk a little further (GP and MC are pretty close)...

Some basic information. I've heard good things about the elementary school.
