Hi. My husband works in Hyattsville, and we currently live in Fairfax. We'd like to move closer to his work, but still stay in a good school system (we have a first grader), and would like to buy a home in the $500s. What is the commute like from Crofton and Clarksville? Is either a better place to live? Thanks!!!!

Clarksville is in Howard County and an hour away at least from Hyattsville, 60 miles anyway. Crofton is just outside Bowie in Anne Arundel County, 25 miles, maybe, if that, probably less.

An hour? Clarksville is about 28 miles from Hyattsville. Crofton is about 18 miles from Hyattsville.

I see on MapQuest the 28. My 60 was from my house, brain fart. From Upper Marlboro to Clarksville on a Friday PM is an hour up 301 to 32.

Honest mistake. I'd say Crofton would be a better bet than Clarksville. The schools are good in both areas, but it's all about location and Crofton is closer.

I think from Crofton would be the easier drive. Coming through Ft. Meade or down 29 or 1 is a pain.

Thanks for the feedback. I've heard both 29 and 50 can be bad drives (not that there's a good commute in this area), but was wondering which would be better.

Clarksville is probably slighter better commute - I can get to Clarksville from my home in UP/Hyattsville in about 20 minutes if traffic on Route 1 isn't bad. It takes 30 to 45 to get to Crofton/Gambrills area. The advantage to Crofton is you can come in 50 to 410 and avoid traffic on Route 1 (which is a nightmare).

In my opinion Clarksville would be better. It is about maybe 10 miles furtehr than Hyattsville is, but more to offer. You'd be living in Howard County, which idk if you have kids, but the school system is great and often times ranked. The value of land in Clarksville vs. Crofton is more particulary because it is in Howard County and is a well sought out area for families. The commute from Clarksville to Hyattsville is not bad at all even for the great amenties in Claskville neighborhoods and area.
