My name is Jeanny. My fiancee just got a new job in laurel,MD and will start sometime next month. We just want to know where is a good and safe place to live anywhere around that area, apartments or house. We really appreciate if someone can give us any information.

Laurel for the most part is pretty safe...try the summit russet area...you also have the luxury of I-95 ,route 29 and route 32 and BWI parkway so look into howard county/columbia or crofton, odenton, grambrills...bowie..

I live in Laurel and most areas are fine. Try to avoid the apartment complexes that run along Route 197. This area does not have a good reputation. If you could find something in historic Laurel, that would be a plus. Good luck in your house hunt.

Look around Savage, on the north end of Laurel--I used to live there and it was nice, a little more rural in appearance than the main area of Laurel. Check out Savage Mill and the park that adjoins it. Best of luck--Colorado to MD is quite a change so, give yourself time to adjust.

You could use DC's metro system but that would take forever considering you would have travel from the terminus of the green line in Greenbelt to change lines at Gallery Place in Downtown DC, then go all the way to the terminus if the the red line, some 20 miles away. That's more trouble than it's worth. The purple line planed to open in 2016 will help with that.

I would say drive for now if you can. Luckily in 2012 the ICC toll road (MD-200) will open up which will make driving to Gaithersburg (presumably) a snap.
