I lived in Laurel for 4 years and never once had a problem. I think laurel is a nice area and very safe as far as any Metro DC city goes lol

Anyone have any comforting Laurel stories?

I lived in Laurel for two years. I stayed on Main Street in an apartment ... single white female at the time. Had no problems at all. Worst issue I had during my stay in Laurel was the maintenance man at my apartment complex was a married creep who always hit on me.

I often walked up and down Main Street by myself, walked up and down the path along the river by myself ....

Default Relocating eventually to Laurel, MD

Hello,

I will be moving to Laurel to attend school. I wanted to ask where I should look for a safe neighborhood for me and my child. I need to ensure my safety and especially her safety. Is there any information that you can provide to me as well regarding Laurel as a place and child care etc.

Thanks.

My sister and I lived in an apartment complex just off Contee Rd. It was a while ago, but we didn't feel safe. We were young and chose the apartment based solely on the rent payment and proximity to work. Nothing terrible happened to us, but our friend had his car broken into while he was visiting, and another time we found a pizza warming bag and an empty cash bag in the laundry room. We figured someone hid out there eating pizza after mugging the delivery boy.

Safety is what you make it. That's what I always tell people. It has been said many times here that people have their own sense of safety. But I caution you to not get lulled into a false sense of safety just because either someone told you an area was "safer" or that you "feel" safe because an area looks clean and the people "look" friendlier.

Car break-in occur EVERYWHERE. An area isn't unsafe because there are auto break-ins. I'd be more worried if my car was broken into with me in it! Or my house for that matter. Thefts happen.

If people think Laurel is unsafe, I feel sorry for you. It doesn't get much "safer" the closer you are to any urban area.
