Hello all!

I am moving to Germantown (close to where Germantown Rd meets Clopper) at the beginning of July and will be working in Rockville off of Executive Blvd. Can you please give me suggestions on the best way to get from my home to work? Should I drive? MARC to Metro? Express Bus to Metro? Currently, I drive anywhere from 40 min to 1 hr each way from work to home so I am not bothered by long drives although a faster commute time would be great! I did check past threads and couldn't find advice that was specific enough for me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

There's buses in the area that will take you to Shady Grove (I think there is a park and ride nearby). Take Metro from Shady Grove to (I'm assuming) White Flint and walki or take another bus from there. Driving on 270 would get rough, but you're only going to North Bethesda, not DC, so maybe it's okay.

I lived in Germantown near 355/118 and worked on Shady Grove Rd near the hospital. I hate to say that if you drive, there's really no great way to go. 270 is always busy, and 355 is the alternative most people seem to use, but it can get backed up as far as Germantown on a bad day. Another option is taking Great Seneca Hwy all the way down, but again it's a lot of lights. I know there is a park and ride in Germantown by the movie theatre, but never used it but you should check it out. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Thanks for your responses. Any idea how long it is by car?

My average was 25 minutes...but on Fridays it could be as fast as 15, and on really bad days as long as 45-60. I always left early on rainy/snowy days.

@firefightermom...thank you! That is helpful. I currently commute 40 min (on a good day) to my job in Seattle...sounds like this commute won't be nearly as bad as what I'm used to. Thanks!

miazmommie... You will be to work very quickly, I live probably a block from clopper and germantown road and commute to Bethesda currently by car. However I use to work in rockville and would take me about 15 minutes without traffic, with traffic about 25. You will be so excited of the short commute. Wish I could be back in rockville again.

@mommie2bgermantown...thank you! This is extremely helpful feedback. I really appreciate it. I am VERY excited about the shorter commute. It took me about an hour to drive 30 miles today...and this was NOT during rush hour! Thanks again...
