Looking from Rockville to Falls Church and D.C. the areas were all quite different to me. I have to get to the Capitol Hill area daily and would like to keep my commute under an hour each way. We want to rent until acclimated for $2000 a month or less (good luck on the less.
I would love all of your ideas, suggestions, and information. Thank you much!
When you say that you want to rent for $2000/month, what are your requirements? Do you need one bedroom, two bedrooms, a single family home? Also, is this the total amount you are willing to spend on housing and related costs (car parking, storage, utilities) or is it just your upward limit for rent? Do you specifically want to be in the suburbs, or would you consider DC? For $2000/month, you could rent a nice one-bedroom in Cathedral Heights, Cleveland Park, or Woodley Park. You might even be able to get a 1+ den or 2 bedroom in some buildings.
Are you willing to commute using public transportation? If so, that makes being within an hour of Capitol Hill a little easier. The trouble is that it certain major car commuting routes crawl along at 6 m.p.h., limiting feasible housing to a fairly small radius. Fortunately, most surface street commutes within DC limits move at a slightly less frightening 12 to 15 m.p.h.
