Got a ticket today at 5th and K. There is and has not been a sign anywhere near 5th saying you have to pay on the north side of K, but they recently installed one of those green things where you can pay near the end of the sidewalk (away from K) and placed a sign over it. Still no sign closer to the other end.

Not to mention, the machine DOES NOT WORK and there are no meters where I was parked. It's always been free, with no time limit. Never gotten any tickets.

Today I got a ticket, even though I confronted the guy writing it and said I would move my car, he was the prick all of them are, wouldn't hear out my reasons (no sign, broken green thing) and gave it to me anyways, saying I could take it to court.

Should I take it to court? It's only $25, but $25 is almost a full week of parking in the lot, and there legitimately is no way I could have paid anyways.

document the status of the meter machine and lack of signage along the area you parked and have at it. the key is lots of good dateable photos.

Be aware that they are not required to give you advance notice of the fee and the presence of the machine (working or not) should have alerted you to a change in status.

You may not win, but you will be able to vent.

Well which is it--you didn't know you were supposed to pay, or the machine was broken? One argument invalidates the other. So if you're going to appeal the ticket, you'd better stick with one argument and drop the other.

Whatever you do fight or pay it... friend decided not to pay a ticket and ended up paying massive (ok, not bad) fines two years later... not the '70s, these things don't go away.

OP, not directed at you... sounds like you are on fighting "or" paying....

My car was stolen last summer . Before it was recovered it got a ticket in DC.(I live in the outer burbs)

I sent in police report documentation car was not in my possesion and they requested a fee to follow up
on that information that was $25 MORE then the ticket.(non refundable) An hour in telephone transfer hell and I ended up paying the ticket.
Yay to Prince William county police that recovered my car. And Yay to Geico who worked with me and let me buy back my car after the claim was already closed then paid for repairs to the car .It still cost me over $1,000 for some punk's joy ride for a month.

pay it. It'll save you on gas and work that piles up while you're gone.

Besides, you won't win those.
