Okay so i went to a newer spot for me this weekend and had a really great time. just thought i'd share it with you all
http://www.matchboxchinatown.com/wp-content/gallery/test_gallery/picture-072.jpg (broken link)

it's called matchbox and it's in chinatown

i'm usually strolling around after a basketball game. not really a fan of chinese food so when i saw this spot i was a bit skepitical. the lady friend suggested we give it a try. good call. who'd think that a contemporary designed spot in chinatown would serve some of the best American food i've had in the DC area. you have got to try their brick oven pizza and miniburgers.

Matchbox is a good place--although I happen to prefer their (slightly less noisy) Barrack's Row location.

Georgia Brown's is not Southern Cuisine. They are imitation at best..

I do like New Orleans Cafe on 18th Street.

to be fair, i don't think many restaurants can prepare true Southern Cuisine properly. Southern Cuisine/Soul Food is more about putting love in your food. Meals take days to prepare, so restaurants take short cuts. Also most restaurants are on this health conscious kick and well, we all know that Southern Cuisine/Soul Food definitely aint the healthiest meal option out there. We like to cook with butter and we love flavor. Presentation isn't a high priority.
