And the variety store I'm remembering was on Albemarle -- 1/2 a block off Wisconsin near Sears. Maybe "Jimmie's Variety" -- something like that. Seems they had everything in there! We used to ride our bikes and get fireballs and red licorice!

How about the DC transit bus barn and Paul Brothers Oldsmobile?

Boy, that part of DC is barely recognizable.
In my time, the pre-Mazza site was just a vacant lot. Lots of sunflowers grew there and we used to go inside and play soldiers and all that. However, my mother remembers the restaurant. It was called the Silver Fox. I have seen postcards for it in eBay.

I caught DC Transit in is final months so I recall the logo and the barn. I also remember Paul Brothers.

Did you attend Murch?

Silver Fox! That's it!

No, not Murch; private schools. I do kind of miss the old, slow pace of DC but that's probably because I'm getting so old!

Surprised that no one has mentioned the ubiquitous Jhoon Ree "Nobody bothers me" Self Defense commercials from the early 80s.

YouTube - Jhoon Rhee Taekwondo Nobody Bother Me Commercial

also...

Roy Rogers (god i miss this place.. I know its not exclusive to DC)

Getting a bushel of crabs from the Wharf

Watching Metro World on basic cable.

Watching late night B-Movies/Horror on WDCA or Channel 50

also, watching Tiny drag that cannon around during those Bullet games is seared into my memory.

How about Susan somebody doing "You always get your way at Bob Peck Chevrolet!" ? Seems like she did that commercial for decades!

Also, there's a Roy Rodgers in Leesburg!

I really miss that. A couple of the free cable stations have shows, but they try to hard and they bombard it with commercials.
