I must be at NRH a little before 9:00 on a weekday morning- I looked at the metro schedule, but between drive to Shady Grove Metro /park/ train / transfer / bus it would take at least 2.5 hrs so I guess I will drive, well, unless it takes even LONGER to drive (jeeze, it's only 23 miles!). How much time should I allow?

1.5 hours or maybe a little less should be enough, but leave a little before 7:30 am. If it takes time to park and walk to where you're going add in some more time.

WHC/NRH/Children's Hospital have a free shuttle from Brookland Metro that runs every 15 minutes each way during rush hour. Catch the train!
