What changes would you like to make to DC's Metro Subway system?

Nothing. Just keep it running safely and on time.

It would be amazing if they built a subway line that ran parallel to the beltway around the whole metro area. You could go from suburb to suburb instead of just being able to go into DC. I know the Purple line would address going from western PG county to Bethesda, but something around the whole beltway would be awesome.

It's a pipe dream though and would never happen.

Absolute Fantasy Wishlist of Metro Changes:

1. Safer trains, safer tracks, overall safer operation of the subway
2. More cops patrolling the stations, especially late on evenings and weekends
3. Run 24/7/365
4. A "loop line" roughly mirroring the beltway
5. Competent, friendly, helpful metro employees (a pipe dream I know)
6. More efficient, less frequent maintenance work with minimal impact to train schedules
7. In-fill station for southern Columbia Heights (around 14th and Euclid)
8. A stop in Georgetown (hey, could be useful sometimes, right?)
9. NYC-subway styled train car interiors (maximize capacity with fewer seats, more handrails)
10. More lines to more easily get to different parts of the city (Bloomingdale, H Street NE, etc)
11. Brighter stations
12. More diversity in station designs (unity is nice, but the brutalism can be a bit boring at times)
13. Reasonable fares that don't increase every few months
14. No pointless bag searches

Fun to dream.

Completely restructure the organization
Negotiate a new contract with the ATU
Have dedicated funding from Maryland, DC and Virginia
Increase police presence
Do ALL the track upgrades needed to get Automatic Train Operation back online
Replace all escalators that were made by that now-defunct manufacturer
Replace all elevators with the type used at Forest Glen
Get the streetcars built and integrated with Metro
Get the Purple Line built with alignment down Campus Drive at UMD
Upgrade SmarTrip cards to allow automated refills (Starbucks can do it)
Would also be cool to have SmarTrip cards that show your balance (RSA security keys can do the same thing, that is, having a screen on a card or fob)
Brighter stations
Eventual goal of modernizing all above-ground stations to look like the NY Avenue / Morgan Blvd / Largo stations

Lower the fares, and more 8 car trains during rush hour.
