I plan on moving to Northern Virginia in a few months and will be spending a lot of my free time in DC. I'm only vaguely familiar with the district so can you give me a rundown on what areas are filled with people walking around or eating outside? Just to clarify I'm talking about lower crime areas.

Where in the daytime do locals gather outside? I'm talking about full sidewalks and lots of eateries/coffee shops.

Thanks!

I am too old to participate, but I see loads of young people getting off the metro at Dupont Circle and going either to the clubs on Connecticut Ave or walking up (18th St.) to Adams Morgan. I have heard that U St. (on the Green line) is very lively.
